Research Area: IAFA - Intelligent Aircraft Final Assembly
Title: IAFA-DR3 – Parametric optimization based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and inprocess inspection
Supervisor: Prof. Wesley Oliveira
Duration: 48 months
Number of Vacancies: 1 vacancies
Application Deadline: 08/31/2024
Expected Graduation: Bachelor and a MSc degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics (Control & Automation) Engineering or a related field.
Languages: English and Portuguese
Is the student required to undertake admissions exams / approval and enrollment on ITA Post Graduate Program?: Yes
Expected Beginning of Scholarship: 09/23/2024

Scope

In this project the selected candidate will develop in-process optimization tools for robotized aircraft final assembly processes.

Objectives

The project is intended to develop and instrument a multi-task collaborative test bed, which will be able to perform sealing operations, a HRC assembly operation, dimensional inspection, and gap monitoring.

Expected Results

Based on online data acquisition gathered from embedded metrology solution (e.g. LIDAR and a 2D laser-beam sensor) and robot online trajectory control, automatic dimensional inspection is performed. Machine learning techniques are intended to be used to build processes models and in-process adjustment of manufacturing parameters.

Additional Information

Candidates should also have a solid background on robotics, computer vision techniques, 2D/3D cloud-point instrumentation and ROS and empirical methods.

Note: scholarship FAPESP reference value will apply (https://fapesp.br/valores/bolsasnopais). Possible additional benefits. The scholarship holder must have a full-time dedication. The work must be carried out in person. Location: FLYMOV - ITA Innovation Center, Address: CCM, Praça Marechal Eduardo Gomes, 50 - Vila das Acacias, São José dos Campos - SP - CEP: 12228-900.
