Scope

This project addresses the challenge of optimizing the parameters of an automatic process for baggage compartment assembly and sealing inside an aircraft. The project aims to develop and instrument a multitasking collaborative robotic cell, which should be capable of carrying out sealing and baggage assembly operations, in addition to dimensional inspection and gap monitoring.

Objectives

The objective of this project is to develop an automatic learning system that, based on real-time data acquisition and processing using AI techniques, allows the robot to adapt to changes in the collaborative assembly process. Based on online data acquisition collected from the metrology solution to be incorporated (e.g. LIDAR and a 2D laser beam sensor) and online trajectory control of the robot, automatic dimensional inspection is to be implemented. Machine learning techniques are intended to build decision models in processes, allowing the robot's actions to be adjusted at run time.

Expected Results

The project work plan includes the final integration and testing of the IAFA demonstrator, adding the functionality of monitoring and adjusting parameters in real time. It is expected that the results of the study will provide validation of the demonstrator within the real aircraft.

Additional Information

Candidates should also have a solid background on robotics, computer vision techniques, 2D/3D cloud-point instrumentation and ROS and empirical methods.
